Hot rolled steel windows made by SWI members are manufactured from specifically designed steel window sections made of 100% recycled steel. Due to the natural resilience of steel over most other window materials available, steel windows can remain functional for several generations before any need to upgrade window performance through contemporary window technologies, such as glass, weatherstripping, etc. When century old steel windows have fulfilled their original role, it is important to know that their value can continue because they can be recycled back into service in the steel market in various forms and functions, conserving energy, natural resources and contributing to a greener planet. Steel is the most recycled material in North America. More steel is recycled every year than paper, aluminum, glass, plastic and copper combined. The environmental benefits of using recycled steel can be found on the Steel Recycling Institute web site at www.recycle-steel.org.
